Seniors

We have an increasing population of seniors that are struggling, as so many of us are. What is there for our seniors to look forward to in their later years?

The first thing I look for in a stable neighborhood is young children.  The second thing and of equal importance, is our seniors. Minneapolis has been pushing seniors out of the city, by not offering any alternative housing that might accommodate their needs. We have seniors that are grandparents and parents who are part of our communities. They have helped to keep these neighborhoods safe and secure by simply being there and “keeping an eye” on what is going on in our neighborhoods. They know what kids live in their neighborhood, what time the parents come home, what happened on the corner last Tuesday, etc. you get where I’m coming from. Our seniors pay attention and yet they are often ignored and they’re a fundamental and vital part of what helps bring stability to our neighborhoods.

I have been listening to our seniors; and they like to talk.

Its time we all listen and help to ensure their security and stability in our neighborhoods.

We need to keep the rooted community members while also encouraging new arrivals as well as those of us already here.
