I recently told a large group of good friends, I went to high school with, that I was going to run for city council. The overwhelming encouragement and support was incredible, with the exception of one very loyal friend questioning “why would you want to get into the politics of politics?” I was immediately reminded of a recent article asking Bob Dylan the question - “Don’t you believe in the democratic process?”
His answer-“Yeah, but what’s that got to do with politics? Politics creates more problems than it solves. It can be counter-productive. The real power is in the hands of small groups of people and I don’t think they have titles.”
That’s the truth, it all starts with a grassroots campaign and everyone gets involved in their neighborhood. “If you can’t bring change to your neighborhood, I encourage you to go get lost in changing Washington.” – I said that…
Oh yeah, and to the question; my answer was simple politics are politics’, getting people to care about their community and get involved so that government has less power over us, now that is “politics” I can support.
